Our history

Burland was established in 1993 to handle the thorny issue and ever increasing demands on office furniture cable management, power and data distribution.

Despite the huge increase in the use of PC’s and ancillary equipment in offices, the systems furniture industry was very slow to catch up by improving designs to cope with these new demands. Burland’s first patented product was the “Burland Box”. Like all good things, an extremely simple, alternative approach to interfacing power distribution at desk level to the building services. This product spawned collaborations with other engineers of greater talent to go on and provide improved power products suitable for use in the ever heavier duty requirements of IT intensive environments and trading floors, especially after “Big Bang”.

These collaborations led to a merger with Aphel, leaders in the field of data centre and telecoms power products. The combined entity, Aphel Technologies, despite the terrible setbacks created by the 9/11 disaster, went on to dominate the UK market for Data Centre power, selling through the main enclosure manufacturers at the time, including; Rittal, APW, Prism, Schroff, Wright Line, U systems to name a few. 2007 saw the acquisition of Aphel Technologies by the Eaton Corporation. At this time, Burland was operating as a brand of Aphel Technologies, but shortly after the sale, Richard Vass, with the blessing of Eaton, re-established the brand as a trading entity, Burland Technology Solutions.

Our mission was to re-establish ourselves as the “go to” operation within the office projects market. This sector suffered in the aftermath of 9/11 and much of our development and effort was focused on the data centre market. From the outset, Burland has experienced continued growth, based upon organically increasing market share, developing new products, actively seeking overseas opportunity and signing strategic alliances with a small number of specialist suppliers such as A & H Meyer and Zens.

Whilst our main market is still in office fit out, we have developed an international reputation as the supplier of choice for collaborations in retail design, counting most household names as clients. In addition, our 100% UK manufactured intelligent data centre PDUs provide an opportunity for business to procure some of the best hardware and software at competitive cost, with extremely low air miles and carbon footprint.

Control of Burland was put into Trust for the benefit of our dedicated colleagues in July 2023, all of whom are now business owners able to share in the continued success of the business.
